Special report

Monsoon:

Tropical Cyclone 03P (Jasper) re-intensified to a cat 2 and swung back to the SW and began crossing early evening. The system producing gusts around 115km/h. The system should weaken into a low and shift towards the gulf.


Storms:

Tropical Cyclone Jasper is expected to weaken to a low in north QLD, still bringing heavy rain and damaging winds. Troughs will trigger showers and storms in the NT and QLD, directing hot winds to the east. A front will bring showers to TAS and a southerly change to the NSW coast.

  • Thursday: Tropical Cyclone Jasper to bring heavy rain, strong winds to north Queensland. Scattered showers in eastern districts and isolated showers in western Queensland. Partly cloudy in southeast Queensland. Gale to storm force winds near Tropical Cyclone Jasper. Fresh east to southeast winds in northern areas. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds elsewhere.

  • Friday: Cape York Peninsula and North Tropical Coast will see showers and storms with heavy rain. Showers and storms will also occur in other parts of the state, except in the far southwest. Southeastern Queensland may experience severe showers and storms. Southeast will have severe heatwave conditions. Maximum temperatures will be above average in the west and southeast, but below average in Far North Queensland.

  • Saturday: Partly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms in Queensland, dry in the southwest. Isolated showers in the east. Heatwave in the southeast.

  • Sunday: Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms expected from Gulf Country to South East Queensland, becoming widespread on the Peninsula. Sunny in the southwest. Above-average temperatures in southeastern and western Queensland, below average in Far North Queensland.

Max temperature: mid to high 20s, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: easterly 30 to 45 km/h decreasing to 20 to 30 km/h early in the morning then becoming east to northeasterly and light in the late evening, Wind direction: east to northeasterly, Rainfall: Cloudy with very high chance of showers in the north and high chance elsewhere, Other: Chance of a thunderstorm in the north.

Central Coast and Whitsundays:

Max temperature: 30, Min temperature: low 20s, Wind speed: easterly 15 to 20 km/h, Wind direction: northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h, Rainfall: medium chance of showers, Other: possibility of thunderstorm.

Peninsula:

Max temperature: 34, Min temperature: mid to high 20s, Wind speed: Unknown, Wind direction: Unknown, Rainfall: Very high chance of showers, Chance of thunderstorm, Heavy falls possible south of Coen, Damaging wind gusts possible depending on Tropical Cyclone Jasper's movement and development.

Gulf Country:

Max temperature: 42, Min temperature: mid to high 20s, Wind speed: 25 to 40 km/h, Wind direction: east to southeasterly, Rainfall: High chance of showers in the north, slight chance elsewhere, Other: Partly cloudy with chance of thunderstorm.

Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders:

Capricornia:

The weather will be partly cloudy with light winds becoming north to northeasterly at 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day, with overnight temperatures falling to between 17 and 22 and daytime temperatures reaching 31 to 37.

Central Highlands and Coalfields:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s; Min temperature: 18-21; Wind speed: 15-20 km/h; Wind direction: east to northeasterly, tending north to northeasterly; Rainfall: chance of a shower in southwest, near zero chance elsewhere; Other: Partly cloudy, chance of thunderstorm in afternoon and evening.

Central West:

Max temperature: 39, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: northeast to southeasterly 15 to 30 km/h, Wind direction: northeasterly to southeasterly, Rainfall: medium chance of showers, Other: Partly cloudy with slight chance of thunderstorm.

North West:

The weather forecast is for maximum temperature of around 40°C, minimum temperature in the mid to high 20s, wind speed of 20 to 30 km/h from the northeast to southeasterly direction, with a slight chance of a shower and a chance of a thunderstorm, and partly cloudy conditions.

Darling Downs and Granite Belt:

Max temp: mid to high 30s, Min temp: 17-23, Wind speed: 15-20 km/h becoming light in the late afternoon, Wind direction: north to northwesterly early in the morning, Rainfall: mostly sunny with medium chance of showers in the southwest and slight chance elsewhere, Other: chance of a thunderstorm from late morning.

Wide Bay and Burnett:

The weather will be partly cloudy with light winds becoming northerly, reaching speeds of 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day before becoming light in the late evening. The maximum temperature will range from 31 to 37 degrees, while the minimum temperature will be between 16 and 21 degrees.

Southeast Coast:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s, Min temperature: 17-20, Wind speed: light, Wind direction: north to northeasterly, Rainfall: Mostly sunny with chance of thunderstorm in southern border in the afternoon and evening.
