Storms and tropical low special report

Storms mainly over the NT, and where the trough crosses the Coast NW WA and SEQ. The rainfall is still pretty light on over the next 5 days and not likely to be any for the NQ as we wait for the next High to produce trade winds.

A quick note on the tropical low which is in development phase and still building in strength. Not clear rotation as yet.


National

High near NZ maintains ridge over eastern QLD, central AU trough draws tropical moisture into western QLD. Fri: upper trough boosts showers & storms. Trough slowly moves east across southern, western, and central QLD next week, lingers inland. Upper trough may enhance rainfall mid next week.


State

High pressure near New Zealand maintains a ridge over eastern Queensland while a trough draws tropical moisture into western Queensland. On Friday, an upper trough will enhance showers and thunderstorms in southern Queensland temporarily. Next week, a trough will slowly move east across southern, western, and central Queensland, lingering inland for several days. There is a possibility of an upper trough crossing southern Queensland mid next week, potentially increasing rainfall.


4-day

  • Friday: Some showers and storms in the west, north, and south. Clear skies elsewhere. Light to moderate winds from north to northeast, shifting to east on Cape York Peninsula and east coast.

  • Saturday: West and northwest: Some showers and thunderstorms, chance of shower in eastern districts. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Temperatures above average in the southwest, below average in the northwest, and near average elsewhere.

  • Sunday: Expect scattered showers and storms in the west and southern interior. Chance of showers on the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Above-average temperatures in the southwest and southern interior, near average elsewhere.

  • Monday: Expect isolated showers, a possible thunderstorm in the Gulf Country District and southern districts. Chance of a shower on the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny in other areas. Higher temperatures than average south of Hughenden, average elsewhere.


Townsville

Min 22°C, Max 31°C, Mostly sunny with a 0% chance of rain. Expect light winds becoming northeasterly at 15-25 km/h in the middle of the day, then becoming light in the evening.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin

Min 19°C, Max 31°C, Mostly sunny with a 0% chance of rain. Winds starting from east to northeasterly at 15-20 km/h, becoming light before dawn, and then shifting to east to northeasterly at 20-30 km/h in the middle of the day.

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Min 19°C, Max 31°C, Partly cloudy with a 5% chance of rain. Expect partly cloudy conditions with easterly winds at 15-25 km/h. Overnight temperatures will fall between 16 and 21, with daytime temperatures reaching 27 to 33.

Cairns

Min 22°C, Max 31°C, Mostly sunny with a 10% chance of rain. Light winds becoming east to southeasterly at 15-25 km/h in the morning, then becoming light in the evening.

Mackay

Min 18°C, Max 29°C, Mostly sunny with a 0% chance of rain. Anticipate light winds becoming easterly at 15-25 km/h in the morning, then becoming light in the late evening.

Northern Goldfields

Min 22°C, Max 36°C, Partly cloudy with a 10% chance of rain. A slight chance of a southwest shower in the afternoon and evening, near zero chance elsewhere. There's a chance of a thunderstorm in the west from late morning. Winds will be east to northeasterly at 15-25 km/h, transitioning to east to southeasterly at 15-20 km/h in the middle of the day, and then east to northeasterly in the evening.

Mt Isa

Min 21°C, Max 34°C, Showers with a possible storm and 4-20 mm of rain, a 95% chance of rain. A very high chance of showers, mainly in the afternoon and evening, and the possibility of a thunderstorm. Winds will be light.
