Storms special report

Troughs will combine, causing showers & storms in SA's west & north, the NT's south, and QLD. Troughs will maintain heat in the tropical inland regions. A high-pressure system will keep southern Australia generally dry. Dry, warm easterly winds will affect WA's west.

National

Trough from Queensland to the Coast moves north, cooler change follows. Trough stalls in Central Queensland, unsettled weather. High in Tasman Sea extends ridge along east coast, pushes trough back to western Queensland on Sunday. Onshore winds increase

moisture, showers and thunderstorms expected.


State

A trough is moving north from western Queensland to the South East Coast, bringing cooler winds behind it. It will stall near Central Queensland today, causing unsettled conditions. A high pressure system will develop in the Tasman Sea and push the trough back over western Queensland on Sunday. This will bring more moisture and widespread showers and thunderstorms through the interior.


4-day

  • Sunday: Sunny in Far North, partly cloudy in southeast. Increasing clouds with showers and thunderstorms in the interior. Severe thunderstorms possible in Maranoa and Warrego. Below average temperatures in southern, central, and western regions.

  • Monday: Partly cloudy with showers in interior and southeastern QLD, isolated in the southwest. Thunderstorms in the interior, possibly severe in the Maranoa, Warrego, and northwest QLD. Some showers in the Wet Tropics. Lower maximum temperatures across most of the state.

  • Tuesday: Cloudy with scattered showers statewide, isolated in the west and widespread with patchy rain in the southeast. Isolated thunderstorms mainly inland of the coast. Below average maximum temperatures across most of the state.

  • Thursday: Cloudy in the east with scattered showers, potentially becoming widespread and rainy in the southeast. Isolated thunderstorms inland and along the coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere with isolated showers and thunderstorms in western Queensland. Below average maximum temperatures throughout most of the state.



Townsville

Min 24°C, Max 31°C, Partly cloudy. Chance of any rain: 5%. Northeasterly winds 15 to 25 km/h, becoming light in the evening.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin

Min 21°C, Max 31°C, Partly cloudy. Chance of any rain: 5%. Northeasterly winds 20 to 30 km/h becoming light in the late evening.

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Min 18°C, Max 31°C, Cloud clearing. Chance of any rain: 0%. Easterly winds 15 to 25 km/h.

Cairns

Min 22°C, Max 32°C, Partly cloudy. Chance of any rain: 5%. Winds easterly 15 to 20 km/h becoming light in the evening.

Mackay

Min 21°C, Max 30°C, Partly cloudy. Chance of any rain: 10%. Light winds becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in the morning then becoming light in the evening.

Northern Goldfields

Min 23°C, Max 38°C, Sunny. Chance of any rain: 10%. Medium chance of rain in the southwest, most likely in the afternoon and evening. Near zero chance of rain elsewhere. The chance of a thunderstorm. Winds east to northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h tending north to northeasterly 20 to 30 km/h early in the morning then tending east to northeasterly in the early afternoon.

Mt Isa

Min 22°C, Max 34°C, Rain. Possible storm. Possible rainfall: 1 to 20 mm. Chance of any rain: 90%. Very high chance of rain, most likely in the late afternoon and evening. The chance of a thunderstorm. Winds southeasterly 15 to 25 km/h becoming light in the evening.
