Storms and tropical low special report
Storms along a trough extending from WA through the NT and into central QLD. That trough is reasonably stationary at the moment and not close enough to the NQ coastline to produce much. Some isolated storms may appear around mountain regions. The rain amounts are expected to be low, but lighting and thunder lots of.
Two tropical lows are developing East of the Solomon Islands, the one to the West is expected to deepen in time and steal the strength from the one to the East. This is only likely to affect Vanuatu and New Caledonia, possibly Fiji but early days. Stay tuned.
National
Inland trough enhances shower activity in southern and central regions. High over Tasman Sea extends weak ridge on east coast. Ridge helps push trough and moisture westward. New trough may enter southwest Queensland and reach southeast next week.
State
Today, a slow moving trough will increase showers and thunderstorms over inland southern and central districts. A high over the Tasman Sea will create a weak ridge along the east coast for most of the week, pushing the trough further into western Queensland by midweek. A new trough may move into far southwest Queensland this weekend and potentially reach the southeast early next week.
