Tropical Low

Cyclone Lola is now over the Vanuatu islands 976hPa. It will likely weaken although the Fiji Meteorology Service has it strengthening to Cat 4. It will likely be short lived if it does as it meets cooler drier air and cooler waters plus the land factor will also weaken it. It is expected to move in a SSW direction.

National

A Tasman Sea high maintains weak northern Queensland ridge with settled conditions. Interior trough moves slowly. Tropical Cyclone Lola near Vanuatu moves southwest, staying offshore before weakening. Upper low may create northern New South Wales surface low. Combining with strong ridge from south of Australia, it brings strong cool wind change over Queensland.

State

Tasman Sea high maintains weak northern QLD ridge, settled conditions. Interior trough remains slow-moving. Cyclone Lola near Vanuatu, moving southwest, expected to weaken offshore. Upper low may create surface low off northern NSW coast Thu-Fri. Low combines with strong ridge to produce strong, cool southeasterly wind change over QLD by end of week.
