National Synoptic Situation

Well, it looks like our old friend, the high pressure ridge, is back in town, courtesy of a high pressure system chilling out in the Tasman Sea. This ridge isn't going anywhere for a while, so get ready to hang out with it for the next few days. But wait, there's more! A trough is coming to shake things up, making its way east across western and interior Queensland from Friday, and then crashing the party in southeastern and central Queensland over the weekend. This trough is expected to bring some much-needed shower and thunderstorm action as it struts its stuff eastwards. Mother Nature sure knows how to keep us on our toes!

Friday, 18th October

Well, it seems like Mother Nature has decided to turn up the heat in the interior districts, with some areas experiencing extreme fire dangers. So, if you happen to be in the Channel Country, Maranoa, Warrego, or Central West, you might want to rethink that spontaneous bonfire you were planning. Stay safe out there, folks!

Saturday, 19th October

Well, it seems like we've got some isolated showers and the potential for thunderstorms spreading out like a fancy belt from northwestern Queensland to southeastern Queensland. Watch out, folks in the southeast - there's a chance of some serious thunderstorm action heading your way. For the rest of us, it's mostly sunny, so grab your shades and enjoy the show. Just be aware that those fresh and warm west to northwesterly winds could bring about some elevated fire dangers down in the southeastern interior. Temperatures are playing games with us, as per usual. They're above average south of Georgetown, reaching new heights around Capricornia and the southeast, and even in the interior. Mother nature sure knows how to keep us on our toes, doesn't she?

Sunday, 20th October

Looks like eastern Queensland, the Gulf of Carpentaria, and the Peninsula might get a little wet today. You might want to grab an umbrella if you're in those areas. And watch out for those isolated thunderstorms in the Gulf Country and eastern Queensland south of Ingham - you don't want to get caught in one of those! But don't worry, folks. The rest of the state is looking mostly sunny, so you can leave your raincoat at home. Just be prepared for temperatures that are above average in most areas, especially in central parts. If you're in the southeast, though, you might actually feel somewhat normal with daytime maxima tending near average. So enjoy the sunshine while you can - Mother Nature has a sense of humor, after all.

Monday, 21st October

Prepare yourselves for a sprinkle or two in eastern Queensland, the Gulf of Carpentaria, and the Peninsula. Don't be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder in central eastern Queensland. Everywhere else, expect mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be higher than usual in most areas, especially in the center where it's scorching hot. Along the east coast, temperatures will be more in line with what you'd expect. Stay cool, Queensland!
