National Synoptic Situation

Well, folks, it looks like we've got a weak trough meandering over the central and southern interior of the state, heading towards the far west. On the other hand, a strong east coast ridge is making its way into the eastern part of the state, while a massive high is casually drifting from Tasmania to the Tasman Sea. But wait, there's more! Another trough is expected to saunter east into southwestern Queensland on Friday, then leisurely make its way through southern and central Queensland over the weekend. It might even venture into the southeast inland by Sunday and stick around for the early part of next week. Mother Nature really knows how to keep us on our toes!

Thursday, 3rd October

In the lofty regions of the Central Coast, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa and Warrego, Central West, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Channel Country, North West and Gulf Country, we can expect some rather interesting weather patterns.

Friday, 4th October

Looks like we've got a mixed bag of weather across Queensland today. You might want to pack an umbrella if you're in the western Gulf Country, northern Peninsula, or along the east coast - isolated showers are on the menu. And if you're between Townsville and Cooktown, those showers might just turn into a scattered affair. But don't get too excited about those showers - they're more about making noise than actually delivering any rain in the Channel Country and southern interior near Charleville and Cunnamulla. So, you might want to bring your own water if you're heading that way. For the rest of the state, it's mostly sunny - a perfect day for a picnic or a stroll. Just watch out for those fresh and gusty northeast to northwesterly winds, which are cranking up the fire danger in parts of western and interior Queensland. In fact, it's extreme in the Channel Country, so maybe hold off on that bonfire. Temperatures are playing a game of opposites today - below or well below average in the east, but above or well above average in the far west. So, if you're feeling a bit chilly in Brisbane, just remember that it's probably sweltering in Mount Isa. Enjoy the weather, Queenslanders!

Saturday, 5th October

Prepare for a sprinkle or two in the western Gulf Country, northern Peninsula, and the east coast above Bowen, with showers sporadically popping up between Ingham and Cooktown. In the inland southeast, expect a few scattered showers. Watch out for isolated thunderstorms with little rain near a trough in the northwest, central west, and southern interior regions. The rest of the state will mostly enjoy sunny weather, except for those fresh, gusty northwesterly winds leading towards a trough in the northwestern to southern interior. Maximum temperatures will be higher than usual in central and southern Queensland, while minimum temperatures will be cooler than average in the east but warmer than average in the southwest. Time to break out the sunscreen and umbrellas, folks!

Sunday, 6th October

Prepare yourselves for some scattered showers dancing about the east coast north of Townsville and the northern Peninsula. Expect a sprinkle or two in the inland southeast. Watch out for isolated thunderstorms with a smidge of rain near a trough in the northwest, central, and southern interior. Everywhere else will be mostly sunny, so you better pack your sunscreen. Temperatures will be feeling themselves, with maximums above or well above average across most of the state. But don't get too comfortable, as minimum temperatures will be feeling a bit below average in central and northeastern Queensland.
