National Synoptic Situation
National Temperature and Rainfall

Rainย typically refers to steady, continuous precipitation that lasts for a longer period, sometimes hours or even days. It can vary in intensity, but it's usually more consistent and widespread.
Showers, on the other hand, are shorter bursts of rain, often intermittent. They can be heavy but usually don't last long. Showers are more sporadic and may be followed by dry periods or other types of weather, like sun or clouds.
State conditions
QLD:
So, there's this trough meandering its way east across southeastern, central, and northern Queensland. It's like a stubborn houseguest who just won't leave until Sunday when it finally decides to move off the east coast. Then, a ridge will pop up over eastern Queensland on Monday and stick around for a while, like that one friend who always overstays their welcome. The northern part of the trough will lazily drift west on Monday and hang out in western Queensland for a bit, possibly leaving the state late next week when a high rolls into the Tasman Sea. It's like a game of musical chairs, but with weather systems.
NSW and ACT:
Well, it seems a trough and a southerly change are making their way up the northern coast, aiming to hit the border by Sunday morning. Following this change, a high pressure system is set to cross Bass Strait, spreading a ridge across the state and bringing some stability to our weather early next week. So, get ready for some calm and predictable conditions ahead!
VIC:
Well, it looks like Mother Nature is feeling a bit bossy with that high pressure system hanging out south of the Bight, extending its reach over Victoria. This means we can expect some cool breezes coming in from the southwest. Don't worry, though, because that ridge will be sticking around for the weekend and into early next week, keeping things steady. Just make sure to grab a jacket before heading out!
SA:
So, we've got a high pressure system chilling over the waters down south, extending its reach over South Australia like a boss. This bad boy is gonna slowly make its way east over the weekend and into next week, while a low pressure trough out west creeps its way towards SA. Mid-week, the trough will start to lose its mojo and another high pressure system will come waltzing in from the south. But hold onto your hats, because next weekend we've got a cold front and trough barrelling in from the west. So, buckle up and prepare for some weather shenanigans ahead!
WA:
Well, it looks like Ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia is losing its mojo as it saunters through the Pilbara and northeast Gascoyne regions. There's a fancy-sounding low-pressure trough stretching from Ex-Zelia all the way across the Kimberley. Mother Nature must be feeling dramatic today!
TAS:
Get ready to say goodbye to the cool southerly airstream over Tasmania on Sunday as a high pressure system waltzes in from the west to take its place. Unfortunately, this high pressure will start to lose its mojo by Monday, giving way to a cold front that's set to crash the party early Tuesday. As if that weren't enough drama for one week, a southwesterly stream is expected to make its grand entrance on Tuesday, sticking around until Wednesday. But fear not, for a high pressure system will be waiting in the wings to bring some stability back to the scene, building up south of the Bight. It's like a soap opera playing out in the skies above Tasmania, with Mother Nature pulling the strings and keeping us all on our toes. So grab your umbrellas and brace yourselves for a rollercoaster ride of weather patterns this week.
NT:
Get ready for some wet weather up in the Top End as the monsoon decides to make a grand appearance. But don't worry, it's not here to stay - it'll be packing up and heading out to the west and north coasts soon enough. Southern NT is in for a treat with cooler temperatures and some scattered rain thanks to a cloud band and southerly winds. But don't get too comfortable because that cloud band will be weakening on Saturday. And if you're in southeastern NT, you can expect some drier weather as a ridge directs southeasterly winds your way. So grab your umbrella, sunscreen, and a jacket - you never know what Mother Nature has in store for us next!

Sunday, 16th February
Hope you've been practicing your stop, drop, and roll because the central and southern interior are serving up some high fire danger today. Time to break out the fire extinguishers and brush up on those evacuation routes - it's about to get lit.
Monday, 17th February
Grab your raincoat if you're heading north of Mackay, because isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are on the menu. Don't forget your umbrella for those isolated showers in the far eastern districts south of Mackay. But fear not, for the rest of us will bask in mostly sunny conditions. If you're in southern Queensland, prepare for below average temperatures and less humid, breezy weather in the southeast. Meanwhile, folks in the northeast between Cooktown and Cardwell, as well as in the northwest, can expect above average temperatures. But don't worry, the severe heatwave conditions in the northeast are finally starting to ease up. It's a mixed bag out there, so dress accordingly and stay weather-wise!
Tuesday, 18th February
Grab your umbrella if you're hanging out north of Hughenden, because there might be a few scattered showers and thunderstorms trying to ruin your day. Over in the eastern districts, you might get lucky with some isolated showers to keep you on your toes. Meanwhile, the western and southern interior will be shining bright like a diamond with mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be feeling themselves with above average highs in the northwest, while the south will be slightly below average - just to keep things interesting. Time to break out your weather-appropriate wardrobe, folks!
Wednesday, 19th February
Grab your umbrella if you're heading north of Hughenden - there's a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. In the east, you might encounter a stray shower or two. But fear not, the western and southern interior will be mostly sunny - perfect weather for a picnic or a stroll. Temperatures will be soaring above average in the northwest, while the rest of us will be chilling at near-average levels. So, pack your sunscreen and your raincoat - it's going to be an interesting day!

Region Forecast: Well, it looks like we've got a classic case of "mostly sunny with a slight chance of a shower" happening today. Don't get too excited though, because that chance of rain is pretty much non-existent everywhere except the north. And if you happen to be in the north, watch out for a possible thunderstorm creeping up on you in the late morning. As for the winds, they'll start off light and innocent in the morning, but by afternoon they'll be picking up speed and changing direction like a fickle lover. From southeast to southwesterly at 15 to 25 km/h, to just plain light and indecisive by the evening. And don't even think about escaping the heat tonight, because those overnight temperatures are going to stubbornly cling to the low 20s. Daytime temperatures, on the other hand, are going to soar to the mid to high 30s, making you wish you had invested in that portable air conditioner. So, folks, remember to dress accordingly, pack an umbrella just in case (if you're in the north), and brace yourself for another day of unpredictable weather courtesy of Mother Nature.
