National Synoptic Situation
National Temperature and Rainfall

Rainย typically refers to steady, continuous precipitation that lasts for a longer period, sometimes hours or even days. It can vary in intensity, but it's usually more consistent and widespread.
Showers, on the other hand, are shorter bursts of rain, often intermittent. They can be heavy but usually don't last long. Showers are more sporadic and may be followed by dry periods or other types of weather, like sun or clouds.
State conditions
QLD:
Well, folks, in case you missed it, a trough decided it had enough of Queensland and is making a run for it off the east coast. In its place, a ridge will be setting up camp over eastern Queensland starting Monday and sticking around for a while. Meanwhile, a weak trough up north will be playing hard to get, drifting west from Monday and hanging out in western Queensland for a bit. It may even decide to leave the state by the end of the week as a high takes over the Tasman Sea. So, get ready for some ridge and trough drama in the coming days!
NSW and ACT:
Well, folks, it looks like we've got a high pressure ridge flexing its muscles across the state this week, bringing some showers to the east. But hold onto your hats because a cold front is expected to swing by on Wednesday, stirring up some potential for showers and storms along the coast and nearby ranges for the rest of the week. So grab your umbrella and prepare for some wet and wild weather ahead!
VIC:
Well, it looks like Mother Nature is feeling a bit moody this week, as a high pressure system is throwing some shade over Victoria with a cool southwesterly airstream. Don't worry, though, a weak cold front will try to stir things up in the south on Tuesday before the high decides to take a vacation over Bass Strait and the Tasman Sea. So, get ready for some breezy and cool days ahead, folks!
SA:
Well, folks, it looks like we've got a high pressure system loitering around the waters south of Kangaroo Island, just casually extending its influence over South Australia. This high and its accompanying ridge are planning to make a grand exit to the east in the coming days, while a low pressure trough from Western Australia is leisurely making its way over to crash the party. But fear not, by mid-week this trough will weaken, giving way to another high pressure system sliding in from the south. And just when you thought the excitement was over, a cold front and trough are gearing up to make an appearance from the west next weekend. So, grab your umbrellas and sunscreen, it's going to be a wild ride!
WA:
Well folks, it looks like Ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia is on its last legs as it drifts over the northeast Gascoyne and far northern Goldfields. By Monday, it will have dissipated into nothingness. There's also a low pressure trough meandering across the Kimberley, just to keep things interesting. So grab your umbrellas and hold onto your hats, because it's going to be a wild ride!
TAS:
Hold onto your hats, folks in Tasmania! A cool southerly airstream is making its way over the region, but don't get too comfortable because it's about to switch to a westerly direction overnight. As if that wasn't enough excitement, a high pressure system is coming in hot from the west to shake things up. But wait, there's more! The high will weaken as it moves northwest on Monday, followed by a cold front swooping in early Tuesday to bring a persistent southwesterly stream through Wednesday. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, a high will slowly creep in from the west on Thursday. So grab your umbrellas and hold onto your hats, Tasmania. It's going to be a wild ride of changing winds and weather systems this week. Stay tuned for more updates and maybe invest in a sturdy hat rack while you're at it.
NT:
Looks like Mother Nature is playing musical chairs with the monsoon up in the Top End. It's shifting northwards, leaving us with some drier southeasterly winds down south in the NT. So, grab your umbrellas and maybe a windbreaker, just in case you get caught in a surprise shower or two.

Temperature and Rainfall Forecast - Access-G

Monday, 17th February
Grab your umbrellas, folks! It's a mixed bag of weather up north of Mackay, with some isolated showers and thunderstorms. Down south of Mackay, it's a bit more chill with just a few scattered showers. As for the rest of us, it's mostly sunny with some light to moderate winds coming in from the east to southeast. Watch out for those fresh gusts along the east coast though, especially south of Townsville. In the far north, the winds are feeling a bit playful, switching from west to northwesterly. Southern Queensland is keeping it cool with below average temperatures, while the southeast is looking less humid and more breezy. Up in the northeast, between Cooktown and Cardwell, and in the northwest, things are heating up with above average temperatures. So, grab your raincoat or your sunscreen, depending on where you're at, and enjoy the show that is Queensland weather.
Tuesday, 18th February
Looks like Mother Nature is feeling a bit indecisive today. You might need your umbrella if you're up north near Hughenden, where showers and thunderstorms are playing a game of hide and seek. Over in the east, you might get a bit wet with isolated showers popping up randomly. But don't worry, folks in the western and southern interior can enjoy mostly sunny skies - lucky ducks. Temperatures are doing their own thing too, with the northwest feeling a bit too hot for comfort while the rest of us are just chilling at average levels. And good news for those in the northeast - the severe heatwave is finally taking a chill pill. So grab your sunscreen and stay hydrated, because you never know what Mother Nature has up her sleeve next.
Wednesday, 19th February
Grab your umbrellas, folks! It's a mixed bag of weather out there today. Keep an eye out for isolated showers and thunderstorms up north near Hughenden, while those in the east might catch a few raindrops here and there. Meanwhile, the western and southern interior will be basking in mostly sunny skies. Temperatures are set to be above average in the northwest, and just about average everywhere else. Stay dry and enjoy the unpredictable beauty of our Australian weather!
Thursday, 20th February
Grab your umbrella if you're north of Hughenden, because isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are on the menu today. Don't worry, you won't be left out if you're elsewhere in the state - you'll still get your fair share of isolated showers, except if you're way down in the far southwest. Temperatures are looking pretty snazzy, with the west sitting comfortably above average while the rest of us are just chilling at near average. So, stay dry and enjoy the slightly warmer weather!
