National Synoptic Situation
National Temperature and Rainfall

Rainย typically refers to steady, continuous precipitation that lasts for a longer period, sometimes hours or even days. It can vary in intensity, but it's usually more consistent and widespread.
Showers, on the other hand, are shorter bursts of rain, often intermittent. They can be heavy but usually don't last long. Showers are more sporadic and may be followed by dry periods or other types of weather, like sun or clouds.
National Synoptic Situation
QLD:
Well, it looks like Queensland is in for a fun week of weather shenanigans. A ridge will be hanging around, thanks to a high cruising into the Tasman Sea. Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Alfred will be doing its own thing out in the Coral Sea, making sure to stir up some winds and waves along the east coast. As for Cyclone Alfred, it's playing hard to get with Queensland. It might get closer later in the week, or it might just keep its distance. It's like a meteorological game of cat and mouse. And just when you thought things couldn't get more exciting, a trough might swing by in the southwest on Friday, sticking around for the weekend before finally calling it quits on Monday. And to top it all off, a new high might make an appearance in the Tasman Sea next week. So get ready to roll with the punches, Queensland. It's going to be a wild ride of weather wackiness.
NSW and ACT:
Well folks, it looks like we've got a trough causing some mischief in western New South Wales, spreading its chaos towards the central eastern areas. Expect some unsettled weather today and tomorrow, just to keep things interesting. But fear not, a new high pressure system will come to the rescue on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing some much-needed stability to the Tasman Sea. In the meantime, a broad trough will continue to loiter around the inland, probably causing trouble just for fun. This delightful pattern is set to stick around until Friday when the trough finally decides to move east, giving us a break. And just to keep us on our toes, a cold front will swing by to the south. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling weather saga!
VIC:
Well folks, it looks like we've got a high pressure system hanging out to the southwest of Victoria, creating a nice little ridge over the state tonight. But don't get too comfortable, because that high is going to mosey on over to Tasmania and into the Tasman Sea tomorrow, as a front and trough start making their way across the Bight. By Wednesday, that trough will be sauntering across Victoria, while the cold front takes a leisurely stroll to the south of the state. But don't worry, a ridge will come to visit on Thursday before another front and trough swing by southern parts on Friday. So grab your umbrella and your sunscreen, because it's going to be a wild ride this week!
SA:
Well, it looks like we've got a stubborn ridge of high pressure hanging out to the south of the State this week, while a sluggish trough is loitering around the far northeast. So, be prepared for some potentially unexciting weather patterns ahead. It's like the weather itself can't make up its mind on where to go next. Just typical Mother Nature being indecisive as usual. Time to break out the umbrellas and sunscreen, folks!
WA:
Well, folks, we've got ourselves a broad trough hanging out over northern WA. It's like that one friend who just won't leave your house after the party's over. But fear not, this trough isn't here to crash on your couch - it's just bringing some cool air and maybe a few showers. So, grab your umbrella and maybe a sweater, because things might get a bit cooler than you'd like. And remember, always be prepared for unexpected guests, whether they're human or meteorological.
TAS:
Well folks, looks like we've got a westerly flow over Tasmania that's finally easing up overnight. But don't get too comfortable because a high is moving in and taking over the state on Tuesday, only to quickly scoot off to the east. On Wednesday, get ready for a northerly flow as a weak cold front decides to make a brief appearance in the west and south of Tasmania. But don't worry, another high will come to the rescue on Thursday before a cold front crashes the party on Friday. Just your typical weather rollercoaster in Tasmania!
NT:
So, down in the south of the Northern Territory, we've got some dry easterly winds thanks to a ridge doing its thing. Meanwhile, up north, we've got a big ol' area of low pressure just hanging out. Just your average day in the Territory, really. Just remember to batten down the hatches and keep an eye on those winds if you're out and about.

Tropical Cyclone Alfred has deepened into a Category 2, and continuing to move away from the coast. From tomorrow it should begin to head South to SSW until Saturday March 1st where all models have it turning to more WSW towards the coast. From the 2nd of March it begins to get unclear but somewhere between Yeppoon and the Gold Coast could be a crossing but there is still the option of skimming the coastline down from about Bundaberg and along the SE coast. That is yet to be determined. Again by the 26th we should have a much better idea. The images below show the end of March 1st where the position is expected from ECMWF, GFS and ACCESS models. The GFS has the slowest and weakest system, ACCESS has the strongest and fastest moving system. The faster the movement the further North the crossing would be.
Temperature and Rainfall Forecast - Access-G

Tuesday, 25th February
Prepare yourself for elevated temperatures in regions further from the coast, with the exception of the Channel Country.
Wednesday, 26th February
Grab your umbrella and head to the east, where isolated to scattered showers are on the menu. If you're feeling adventurous, venture up north of Hughenden for a chance of a thunderstorm. In the far northwest and southern interior, thunderstorms might crash the party. But fear not, for the rest of us will bask in mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be above average in the far west and southern interior, while the rest of us will be chilling at near average levels. So, pack your sunscreen and maybe a raincoat, and prepare for a weather rollercoaster ride!
Thursday, 27th February
Prepare for a smattering of showers in the east and north of Georgetown, with a dash of thunderstorm possible in the far northwest. Expect bright rays of sunshine everywhere else. Temperatures will be higher than usual in the far west and southern interior, but just right in other areas.
Friday, 28th February
Looks like Mother Nature is feeling a bit indecisive today - showers here, sunny there, and oh, don't forget a side of thunderstorms in the Torres Strait! And if you thought the heat was just a regular old heatwave, think again - we've got ourselves a severe heatwave in the North West District. So grab your sunscreen and stay hydrated, folks, it's gonna be a scorcher out there!
