National Synoptic Situation

State conditions

QLD:

Hold onto your hats, Queenslanders! A ridge is set to hang out over southeastern Queensland while a high in the Tasman Sea decides to take a leisurely stroll east for the next little while. Meanwhile, a trough is stretching out over the Gulf of Carpentaria and the northern Coral Sea, causing some onshore winds to kick up a fuss along the northeast coast. But fear not, for the ridge and those pesky onshore winds will start to calm down on Wednesday and Thursday as the high saunters off into the distance. However, that stubborn trough might stick around for a few more days, just to keep things interesting. In the southwest, an inland trough is planning a little road trip on Wednesday, sauntering east on Thursday and Friday, before losing its mojo and heading back west next weekend. Up north, that trough is getting cozy and deepening, possibly turning into a monsoon trough over the weekend. Keep an eye out for one or more tropical lows to pop up within the trough in the Gulf of Carpentaria and Coral Sea from Thursday onwards. As if that wasn't enough excitement for one forecast, a new high will be making its grand entrance into the Tasman Sea on Saturday, slowly making its way east for a couple of days and beefing up that ridge over southeastern Queensland. So, stay safe out there, folks, and brace yourselves for any storms or heatwaves that may come your way!

NSW and ACT:

Well, it seems like Mother Nature is feeling a bit moody this week. We've got a high pressure system doing the slow shuffle over the Tasman Sea, while a mobile trough is gatecrashing the party in the far southwest. This trough is set to make its grand tour across the southern, western, and central areas on Tuesday, bringing along a cold front for some extra dramatic effect. Now, don't get too comfortable because this trough isn't done yet. It's planning to hang out along the north coast until the weekend, while another trough is planning a quick visit to the far south coast midweek. And just when you thought it was safe to go outside, another high pressure system is sneaking in from the Bight to the Tasman Sea to wrap up the week. With all this stormy talk and heatwaves on the horizon, it's probably a good idea to stay safe out there, folks. Maybe stock up on some extra sunscreen and keep an eye on those umbrella. You never know what Mother Nature has up her sleeve next!

VIC:

Better grab your winter coat and prepare for some chilly temperatures as a cold front sweeps across Victoria tonight, making its way up to NSW by Tuesday morning. But don't get too comfortable, because a high-pressure system will set up camp over Victoria for the rest of the week, bringing calm and cool conditions. Just when you think it's safe to put away your parka, the winds will start shifting eastward by Friday. Stay safe and stay warm, folks! And don't forget your umbrella for those unexpected storms and heatwaves that Mother Nature loves to throw our way.

SA:

Hold onto your hats, folks! We've got a low pressure trough meandering through South Australia, making its way northeast overnight and into Tuesday. Meanwhile, a high pressure ridge is sauntering over the waters south of the Bight from the west. But wait, there's more! A high pressure system is set to show up south of the Bight on Wednesday and Thursday, while our low pressure trough decides to hang out over southwest Queensland. And just when you thought it couldn't get any more exciting, this pattern is expected to stick around until the weekend. That's right, the high pressure system will do a little hop, skip, and jump across Victoria to settle over the Tasman Sea. So, brace yourself for some stormy shenanigans and sizzling heatwaves. Remember, safety first, folks! Stay indoors, stay cool, and stay dry during these wild weather escapades.

WA:

Well, isn't that just peachy? We've got a lovely little area of low pressure hanging out up north, just waiting to stir up some trouble. So, be sure to keep an eye out for storms and heatwaves because, let's face it, Mother Nature loves to keep us on our toes. Stay safe out there, folks!

TAS:

Well, it seems Tasmania is in for a rollercoaster of weather this week. From a cold front causing havoc on Monday to a high pressure system taking over and bringing some stability. But don't get too comfortable, as the high is set to stick around until the weekend when it decides to pay Tasmania a visit. So, keep your umbrellas handy and sunscreen at the ready, because you never know when Mother Nature will decide to throw a tantrum. Stay safe out there!

NT:

Ah, it appears Mother Nature is feeling a bit indecisive in the Northern Territory, with a mix of low pressure and troughs causing some weather confusion. As a high saunters through the Great Australian Bight, it looks like we're in for some dry east to southeast flow in the southern parts of the NT. While we may not be in for a thrilling storm or heatwave, it's always best to stay safe and prepared for whatever weather may come our way. So grab your umbrella and sunscreen, and let's navigate this weather rollercoaster together!

Temperature and Rainfall Forecast - Access-G

Tuesday, 28th January

Buckle up, dear friends, for some scorching temperatures in the western and northern regions. Mother Nature is serving up a generous portion of heatwaves, so be sure to stay hydrated and seek shade whenever possible. Remember, safety first when it comes to braving the stormy elements of the great outdoors.

Wednesday, 29th January

Get your umbrellas ready folks, because we've got some isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms making an appearance today. And if you happen to be between Cooktown and Ayr, be prepared for some heavy rainfall - it's going to be a wet one! In the central interior and southeast, it's mostly sunny - so grab your sunscreen and shades for a day of soaking up those rays. But don't let the sunshine fool you, because maximum temperatures are still near average in eastern districts and Cape York Peninsula, and above average elsewhere. And let's not forget about the severe heatwave conditions in the northwest - it's going to be a scorcher out there! Remember to stay hydrated, seek shade, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun to stay safe during these extreme temperatures. Stay cool out there, folks!

Thursday, 30th January

Prepare to sweat buckets as the sun shines down on the far southwest, while scattered showers and thunderstorms pop up in other areas like a surprise party guest. Don't be fooled by the isolated showers in the southeast - they're just playing hard to get. Temperatures will be flirting with average in the east and Cape York Peninsula, but they'll be showing off their above-average skills everywhere else. Oh, and don't forget about the severe heatwave conditions in the northwest - Mother Nature is cranking up the heat like a teenager with a new toy. Stay safe out there and remember to stay hydrated - heatwaves and storms can be real party poopers if you're not careful.

Friday, 31st January

Get ready to bask in the glorious sunshine in the far southwest while the rest of us dodge isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Don't be fooled by the isolated showers in the southeast - they can still catch you off guard! Temperatures will be near average in some places and above average in others, so make sure to drink plenty of water and seek shade if you start feeling the heat. And don't forget about those severe heatwave conditions easing up in the northwest - Mother Nature sure knows how to keep us on our toes! Stay safe out there, folks.

Region Round-up - BOM

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Region Forecast: Get ready for some wet weather, folks! There's a good chance of showers, especially on the eastern side of the range. Watch out for thunderstorms too - heavy rain could be on the way along the coast. The winds will be shifting around a bit, so hold onto your hats! Don't be fooled by the cloudy skies - temperatures will still be warm, dropping to the low to mid 20s overnight. Daytime highs will be between 25 and 30 degrees, so it's not quite time to break out the winter coats just yet. Remember to stay safe in any stormy weather and keep an eye out for any heatwaves on the horizon. Mother Nature can be unpredictable, so it's always best to be prepared.
