National

Today, a weak trough moves east across southern Queensland, and later moves offshore. A high also moves across southeast Australia today and creates a new ridge after the trough. The high weakens and reaches the Tasman Sea on Thursday. Over the weekend, a weak trough lingers over southern Queensland. On Sunday, a stronger high moves across Tasmania and then into the Tasman Sea on Monday, causing increased onshore flow onto the southeast coast.

State

A trough will move east across southern Queensland today and offshore this evening. A high will cross southeast Australia today, creating a new ridge. The high will weaken as it reaches the Tasman Sea on Thursday. Another weak trough will move over southern Queensland on the weekend and stay for a few days. A stronger high will move across Tasmania on Sunday and then into the Tasman Sea on Monday, causing increased flow onto the southeast coast.

  • Thursday: Isolated showers on east coast. Showers on North Tropical Coast and Torres Strait. Sunny elsewhere. Morning frost inland in south and central Queensland. Morning fog between Mackay and Rockhampton. Maximum temperatures near average north of Georgetown, above average elsewhere. Minimum temperatures above average in southeast and northwest, near average elsewhere.

  • Friday: Isolated showers on the east coast, scattered showers in the North Tropical Coast and Torres Strait. Sunny elsewhere. Morning frost inland in southern and central QLD, morning fog inland in the southeast. Temperatures near average north of Hughenden, above average elsewhere.

  • Saturday: Some showers in parts of eastern districts and Torres Strait, becoming more widespread on Cassowary Coast. Sunny in other places. Morning fog in certain areas. Temperatures near average or above.

  • Sunday: Isolated showers and thunderstorms in east and Darling Downs. Few showers in Torres Strait. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Temps near average in north and east, above average elsewhere. Min temps above average.
