Christmas:

Continuing to look ahead to Christmas day, a low pressure system is expected over Victoria and the NT, extending a trough over the dividing range. The trough is not expected to move too move on Christmas day, however on Boxing day it should move further East.

Storms:

Troughs, a low, and onshore winds bring showers and storms to WA, the NT, QLD, and eastern VIC, some severe. High pressure results in dry conditions for TAS, western VIC, most of SA, and southern WA.

Storms 2PM maturing


National

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper persists as a weak low in the northern Gulf of Carpentaria, extending a trough over northern Cape York Peninsula. The low may drift east into the northern Coral Sea before likely returning west next week. A weakening trough extends over central and southern Queensland, becoming a broad low on Saturday. A new trough moves into the southwest on Sunday and across central and southern Queensland in the following days

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper weak in the Gulf of Carpentaria, may move to northern Coral Sea and then back west. Weak trough over northern Cape York. Broad area of low pressure in central and southern Queensland on Saturday. New trough in southwest, moving east across Queensland. Upper trough may enhance showers and thunderstorms in eastern Queensland. Trough weakens on Wednesday, new trough arrives late next week.

  • Saturday: Isolated showers and thunderstorms across the state, except in the west. Severe thunderstorms possible with damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall in central and southern Queensland. Clear in the west. South to southeasterly winds in western Queensland and the southeast, turning northwest to northeasterly elsewhere. Northeast to southeasterly winds in the southeast interior. Severe heatwave conditions in the northern interior and northwest.

  • Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms expected across the state, with severe storms possible in central and southern Queensland. Heatwave conditions in the north and northwest. Higher temperatures in the west and central districts, normal elsewhere.

  • Monday: Scattered showers and storms over the state, more widespread in the east, with potential for severe weather in central and southern areas. Sunny in the far southwest. Severe heatwave conditions in the north and northwest. Temperatures above average in the northwest, Central West District, and southeast, below average in the southwest, and near average elsewhere.

  • Tuesday: Isolated showers and thunderstorms across most of the state, except the southwest. Showers may become more widespread in eastern districts. Severe thunderstorms possible in central and southern Queensland. Mostly sunny in the southwest. Temperatures above average in northwest, Central West District, and southeast; below average in the southwest; and near average elsewhere.



North Tropical Coast and Tablelands:

The weather will be partly cloudy with a medium chance of showers, thunderstorms, light winds, overnight temperatures in the low to mid 20s, and daytime temperatures reaching 29 to 34.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin:

Max temperature: 37, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light winds becoming 15 to 25 km/h, Wind direction: north to northeasterly, Rainfall: medium chance of showers, Other: partly cloudy, chance of a thunderstorm.

Central Coast and Whitsundays:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light becoming north to northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h, Wind direction: becoming light, Rainfall: high chance of showers in morning and afternoon, Thunderstorm possible, Partly cloudy.

Peninsula:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light, Wind direction: not mentioned, Rainfall: high chance of showers north of Coen, medium chance elsewhere, Other: partly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms.

Gulf Country:

Max temperature: 37 to 43, min temperature: mid to high 20s, wind speed: 15 to 25 km/h, wind direction: north to northwesterly, rainfall: slight chance of a shower near east coast, near zero chance of rain elsewhere, other: mostly sunny with a chance of a thunderstorm.

Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders:

Max temperature: 35 to 42, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: 15 to 20 km/h, Wind direction: northwest to northeasterly, Rainfall: slight chance of a shower in the north, near zero chance elsewhere, Other: Mostly sunny with a chance of thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening, winds becoming light in the evening.

Capricornia:

The maximum temperature will be around 30 with a minimum of 19-23, wind speed will start light and become northeasterly 15-20 km/h in the middle of the day, before becoming light in the late evening. There is a high chance of showers, mostly in the late morning, with a chance of thunderstorms. Overall, it will be partly cloudy.

Central Highlands and Coalfields:

The weather will be partly cloudy with high chance of showers, a possible severe thunderstorm, light winds becoming northeasterly, and temperatures ranging from 19 to 36 degrees.

Central West:

Max temperature: 35 to 42, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: 15 to 20 km/h, Wind direction: northeast to southeasterly

, Rainfall: Sunny morning, Chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening.

North West:

The weather forecast includes a maximum temperature in the low 40s, minimum temperatures in the low to mid 20s, winds starting from the south at 15 to 20 km/h and becoming light before dawn, and a description of "Sunny" with no mention of rainfall.

Channel Country:

Max temp: 38 to 43; Min temp: low to mid 20s; Wind: SE to SW 15 to 20 km/h, NW to NE in morning, NW to SW 20 to 30 km/h in middle of day; Rainfall: Sunny morning, chance of thunderstorm in SE in afternoon & evening.
