Monsoon:
Details of Tropical Cyclone Jasper at 4:00 pm AEST: (BOM)
Intensity: category 1, sustained winds near the centre of 75 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour. Location: within 45 kilometres of 9.4 degrees South, 157.2 degrees East , 305 kilometres west of Honiara and 1500 kilometres northeast of Cairns .
Movement: slow moving . Tropical cyclone Jasper has formed in the Solomon Sea and is slow moving. It is expected to intensify, becoming a severe tropical cyclone during Wednesday while tracking south-southwest towards the northeast Coral Sea.
Storms:
Troughs will bring showers and storms to WA, the NT, and QLD's north. Troughs will drive hot winds across much of the interior and east. A high will keep much of southern QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS, SA, and coastal WA dry and mostly settled.

Southern Tasman Sea ridge extends northward over the state's east, as weak trough lingers northwest. Persistent ridge and slow eastward drift of high for most of week. Possible trough moving across southern Queensland on weekend. Tropical Cyclone Jasper formed today in far northeastern Coral Sea, expected to develop further and drift towards central Coral Sea later this week.

Thursday: Isolated showers on east coast, scattered on North Tropical Coast. Showers and thunderstorms on western Peninsula and southern Gulf coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Severe heatwave in southwest and southern interior, possibly on Peninsula. Strong east to northeasterly winds increase fire danger. Above average temperatures, especially inland south.
Friday: Isolated showers in the east coast and North Tropical Coast, scattered showers on the southern Gulf coast and western Peninsula. Partly cloudy in the east, mostly sunny elsewhere. Severe heatwave in the southwest, southern interior, and possibly Peninsula. Southeasterly winds developing in the east. High fire dangers in central and southern Queensland. Temperatures near average in the east and central, above average elsewhere, and well above average in inland southern Queensland.
Saturday: Isolated showers on the east coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms on the Gulf of Carpentaria coastline, becoming widespread on the northern Peninsula. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Heatwave conditions in the southwest, southern interior and Peninsula easing. Strong winds on the east coast south of Townsville, depending on Tropical Cyclone Jasper. High fire dangers in interior districts. Above-average temperatures, especially in inland southern Queensland.
