National

Troughs and lows to persist, bringing heavy showers and storms to the tropics, QLD, and northeast NSW. WA may experience thunderstorms inland while maintaining heat in the southern interior. A front near Tas will result in light showers for Tas and Vic.

State

A trough in Queensland weakens from Wednesday. A weak ridge strengthens on the east coast on Thursday, extending across the state for several days. The ridge is maintained by a new high moving east from the Southern Ocean. A monsoon trough forms over the Northern Territory and Gulf of Carpentaria from Thursday. A tropical low may form within the trough in the Northern Territory.

  • Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms throughout the state, becoming widespread at times in the interior. Possible severe thunderstorms in inland Queensland with heavy rain. Light winds, turning south in the southwest.

  • Thursday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms across most of the state, showers only on east coast south of Mackay. Widespread showers at times in northern and far northern Queensland. Possible heavy rainfall on North Tropical Coast. Below average temperatures in west and southern interior, near average elsewhere.

  • Friday: Most of the state will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with only showers in the southeast. Far northern Queensland may experience widespread showers at times, with the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall along the North Tropical Coast. Maximum temperatures will be below average in the west and near average elsewhere.

  • Saturday: Some showers and thunderstorms in the north and northwest, showers in eastern districts below Cairns. Chance of thunderstorm between Mackay and Kingaroy. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Temperatures near average.


North Tropical Coast and Tablelands:

Max temperature: 33, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light becoming easterly 15 to 20 km/h, Wind direction: easterly, Rainfall: high chance of showers, Thunderstorm possible, Cloud cover: Partly cloudy.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin:

Max temperature: Around 30. Min temperature: Low to mid 20s. Wind speed: Light, becoming east to northeasterly 15-20 km/h in the early afternoon, then light in the late afternoon. Wind direction: East to northeasterly. Rainfall: High chance of showers, most likely from late morning. Other: Partly cloudy. Chance of thunderstorm.

Central Coast and Whitsundays:

Max temperature: 30; Min temperature: low to mid 20s; Wind speed: easterly 15 to 20 km/h, becoming light; Wind direction: easterly; Rainfall: high chance of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon, possible thunderstorm; Other: Partly cloudy.

Peninsula:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s, Min temperature: mid 20s, Wind speed: light, Wind direction: N/A, Rainfall: very high chance of showers, Thunderstorm: yes, Other: Partly cloudy.

Gulf Country:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s, Min temperature: mid 20s, Wind speed: light winds, Wind direction: not specified, Rainfall: high chance of showers, Other: Partly cloudy, chance of a thunderstorm.

Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders:

The weather tomorrow will have a maximum temperature of 35°C, minimum temperature in the low to mid 20s°C, wind speed starting light and becoming 15 to 20 km/h from the east to northeasterly direction, chance of showers expected from late morning with a thunderstorm possible, and partly cloudy conditions.

Capricornia:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light winds becoming east to northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h, Wind direction: east to northeasterly, Rainfall: high chance of showers, most likely in late morning and afternoon, Other: partly cloudy, chance of thunderstorm.

Southeast Coast:

Max temperature: 30°C, Min temperature: low 20s, Wind speed: light winds becoming easterly 15 to 20 km/h, Wind direction: easterly, Rainfall: high chance of showers, most likely in the late morning and afternoon, Other: Partly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorm, overnight temperatures falling to the low 20s.

  • Strong Wind Warning issued for various coastal areas on Wednesday.

  • Severe Thunderstorm Warning for heavy rainfall in North West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western, and Northern Tablelands.

  • Moderate Flood Warning in place for the Latrobe River.

  • Minor to moderate flood warnings for several rivers including the Avon River, King River, and Paroo River.

  • Final flood warnings for the Snowy River, Warrego River (Nsw), and Broken River.

  • Fire Weather Warning for Karroun and Lockwood.

  • Final Flood Watch for Gippsland, Central, and Northern Victoria.

  • Various minor flood warnings for rivers such as Yarra River, Loddon River, and Avoca River.

  • Final Flood Warning for the Dawson River.
