National

Tropical low may bring heavy rain and storms to northeast WA and the NT's Top End. Troughs and lows over WA, NT, inland QLD, and NSW to maintain showers and storms while heating the interior. Onshore winds expected to bring showers to QLD's east, SA's coast, and northeast NSW.

State

A trough in Queensland weakens Thursday. A ridge on the east coast strengthens Thursday as a high moves to the Tasman Sea, bringing a wind surge. The ridge will persist for days. A new high in the Southern Ocean will maintain the ridge. A monsoon trough over the Gulf of Carpentaria and Cape York Peninsula persists for days. A tropical low may form in the Gulf of Carpentaria on the weekend.

  • Thursday: Widespread showers and thunderstorms across the state, with heavier rainfall in the Central Coast and far north. Possible severe thunderstorms with heavy rain inland, including the southeast. Light to moderate winds shifting from northeast to southeasterly and then south to southeasterly in the far southwest later in the day.

  • Friday: Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the north and northwest. Isolated showers and storms everywhere else, with the southeast only experiencing showers. Severe thunderstorms possible in the north, far north, and southwest, including North Tropical Coast. Below average temperatures in the northwest and southern interior, near average elsewhere.

  • Saturday: Saturday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms in northwest, rain in far northwest. Isolated to scattered showers and chance of thunderstorms in south-east of Cairns. Possible severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall in Gulf Country District and Cape York Peninsula. Sunny in central and southern interior. Maximum temperatures below average in northwest, near average elsewhere.

  • Sunday: On Sunday, there will be showers and rain in the northwest with a chance of a thunderstorm. The eastern districts south of Cairns will have isolated to scattered showers. There is also a chance of a thunderstorm between Mackay and Kingaroy. The northwest may experience moderate to heavy rainfall. The central and southern interior will be mostly sunny. Maximum temperatures will be below average in the northwest and near average elsewhere.


North Tropical Coast and Tablelands:

Max temperature: 30, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light becoming easterly 15-20 km/h, Wind direction: easterly, Rainfall: Very high chance of rain, Other: Cloudy, chance of thunderstorm.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin:

Max temperature: 30, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light winds becoming easterly 20 to 30 km/h, Wind direction: easterly, Rainfall: high chance of showers, Other: partly cloudy, chance of thunderstorm, light winds becoming easterly in the morning and light again in the evening.

Central Coast and Whitsundays:

Max temperature: 30, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light becoming easterly 25-35 km/h, Wind direction: NA, Rainfall: Medium chance of showers, Other: Partly cloudy, Chance of thunderstorm.

Peninsula:

Max temperature: Low 30s; Min temperature: Mid 20s; Wind speed: Light; Wind direction: N/A; Rainfall: Very high chance of showers, most likely in late morning and afternoon; Other: Cloudy, chance of thunderstorm, possibly severe in south.

Gulf Country:

Max temperature: low 30s; Min temperature: mid 20s; Wind speed: light becoming north-easterly 15-20 km/h; Wind direction: north-easterly; Rainfall: very high chance of showers; Other: partly cloudy with chance of severe thunderstorm.

Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders:

Max temperature: 35, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light becoming 20-30 km/h, Wind direction: east to northeasterly, Rainfall: Chance of showers, Thunderstorm possible, Cloud cover: Partly cloudy.

Capricornia:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light winds becoming east to southeasterly 25 to 35 km/h in the morning, Wind direction: east to southeasterly, Rainfall: slight chance of a shower, Other: Partly cloudy, chance of a thunderstorm in the southwest in the late afternoon and evening.

Central Highlands and Coalfields:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s; Min temperature: low 20s; Wind speed: light winds becoming easterly 20 to 30 km/h in the morning; Wind direction: easterly; Rainfall: partly cloudy with a medium chance of showers about the Carnarvon Ranges and slight chance elsewhere; Other: chance of a thunderstorm.

Central West:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s; Min temperature: low to mid 20s; Wind speed: light early, 20-30 km/h in the morning; Wind direction: east to northeasterly; Rainfall: high chance of showers, possibly thunderstorm; Other conditions: Partly cloudy.

North West:

The weather will be partly cloudy with high chance of showers, possibly a severe thunderstorm, light winds becoming easterly 20 to 30 km/h, with max temperature of 33 to 38 and overnight temperatures falling to low to mid 20s.

Channel Country:

Max temperature: 35 to 42, min temperature: mid to high 20s, wind speed: easterly 20 to 30 km/h, wind direction: east, rainfall: partly cloudy with high chance of showers in east and medium chance elsewhere, chance of severe thunderstorm.

Maranoa and Warrego:

Max temperature: low to mid 30s, Min temperature: low to mid 20s, Wind speed: light winds becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in the morning then tending easterly in the middle of the day, Wind direction: northeasterly to easterly, Rainfall: high chance of showers, most likely in the late morning and afternoon, with a chance of a severe thunderstorm, Other: mostly partly cloudy.

Darling Downs and Granite Belt:

Max temperature of 36 with easterly winds of 25-35 km/h, a chance of fog in the far southeast, medium chance of showers in the southwest, slight chance elsewhere, and a chance of a thunderstorm; overnight temperatures falling to between 19 and 23.

Wide Bay and Burnett:

Max temperature: low 30s, Min temperature: 19-22, Wind speed: light winds becoming 20-30 km/h in the morning, Wind direction: east to southeasterly, Rainfall: medium chance of showers about K'gari, slight chance elsewhere, Other: Partly cloudy, chance of fog in southeast, chance of thunderstorm inland in afternoon and evening.

Southeast Coast:

Max temperature: 30°C, Min temperature: 20°C, Wind speed: 20-30 km/h ESE, Wind direction: East to southeasterly, Rainfall: Partly cloudy with chance of fog in early morning, medium chance of showers in morning and afternoon, chance of thunderstorm in Lockyer Valley in afternoon and evening, light winds becoming ESE 20-30 km/h in morning, overnight temperatures falling to around 20°C with daytime temperatures reaching around 30°C.
