Troughs and lows will bring scattered showers and storms to WA's east and north, SA's west, the NT, QLD, NSW, and Vic, with additional showers in Tas. These troughs and lows will maintain humidity in the east and heat in the central and northern interior. Onshore winds will bring cooling showers to southeast coastal WA.

State

A slow-moving complex trough will deepen in western Queensland. A coastal trough will enhance rainfall near the southern Queensland coast today, but will weaken and move offshore on Wednesday. A ridge of high pressure will extend along the Queensland coast for much of the week and may strengthen over the weekend.

  • Wednesday: Most of the state will experience isolated showers and thunderstorms, with only showers expected on the east coast north of Ingham. Showers will be widespread at times, with rain near the southeast coast south of Hervey Bay. There is a risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding between Bribie Island and Maryborough, which will ease in the evening. Severe thunderstorms are possible in southwestern Queensland. The southwest region, around Mount Isa, will be partly cloudy. Along the southeast coast, winds will be moderate to fresh, occasionally strong on the Sunshine Coast. Northwest to northeasterly winds will be light to moderate elsewhere.

  • Thursday: Scattered showers in northwest, Cape York Peninsula; isolated elsewhere. Isolated showers along east coast. Partly cloudy southwest and central inland. Severe heatwave in north and west. High max temperatures in the west, mostly above average elsewhere.

  • Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms for most of the state. Isolated showers along the east coast. Showers may become widespread in southeastern Queensland. Severe thunderstorm chances in inland southeast Queensland. Heatwave conditions in the west and some parts of Cape York Peninsula. Maximum temperatures above average, near average in the southeast.

  • Saturday: Saturday will have showers and thunderstorms in most parts of the state, showers only in southeast QLD and the east coast north of Townsville. Heatwave conditions will still be present in some areas of the Cape York Peninsula. Maximum temperatures will be above average in Far North QLD, below average in the southeast, and near or above average elsewhere.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin:

Max temperature: 32 to 37; Min temperature: low to mid 20s; Wind speed: light becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h; Wind direction: -; Rainfall: Medium chance of showers; Other: Partly cloudy, chance of thunderstorm in late morning, winds becoming light in late evening.

Central Coast and Whitsundays:

Max temperature: 36°C, Min temperature: low 20s, Wind speed: light, Wind direction: east to northeasterly, Rainfall: chance of showers in the afternoon and evening, Other: Partly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms in the late morning.

Peninsula:

Max temperature: 39, Min temperature: mid 20s, Wind speed: Light winds becoming easterly 15 to 25 km/h, Wind direction: becoming light in the late evening, Rainfall: chance of showers near the west coast, slight chance elsewhere, Other: Partly cloudy, chance of thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening.
