Rain event special

Two troughs now exist with the one out in the Coral Sea creating more Easterlies towards the NQ coastline, and another crossing the coast and producing the rain over the dividing ranges to the South.


The EC again showing less intense rain but shown to be wrong last night. Winds picking up to gale force along the coast from Yepoon to Whitsundays as midnight approaches.

National

High over The Bight extends ridge west; high moves slowly east for several days. Trough off central QLD coast this morning, expected offshore today. Trough weakens, shifts north from Tuesday. High moves over southeast Australia on Tuesday, extending firm ridge over state. High reaches Tasman Sea on Thursday, weakens as it continues east. Trough may move across southern QLD late in week.

State

Showers likely in eastern and central Queensland, with a chance of thunderstorms. Isolated showers in other parts. Mostly sunny in the west, morning frost possible. Moderate winds, turning northeast to southeasterly in the east. Temperatures near average in the south, below average elsewhere.


4-day

  • Tuesday: Isolated to scattered showers in east and north QLD, becoming widespread in Central Coast. Mostly sunny southwest and southern interior, partly cloudy elsewhere. Morning frost southeast. Fresh to strong east to southeasterly winds in central, western, and east coast. Temps above average south of Winton, below average north.

  • Wednesday: Scattered showers in eastern districts, widespread at times over North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers for Peninsula and Torres Strait. Mostly sunny in southwest, partly cloudy elsewhere. Morning frost inland in southeast. Strong winds in central and western districts. Temperatures near average in Far North, above average elsewhere.

  • Thursday: Eastern districts may experience some scattered showers, becoming more widespread at times along the North Tropical Coast. The Peninsula and Torres Strait may also have isolated showers. It will be partly cloudy in other areas. In the southeast, there may be morning frost. Temperatures will be above average, but maximum temperatures will be closer to average in the east.

  • Friday and the weekend: Some showers in the east, becoming widespread on the North Tropical Coast until Saturday afternoon. Showers moving north of Rockhampton from Friday afternoon. Isolated showers in the far southwest, northern, and eastern Peninsula and Torres Strait. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Morning frost inland in the southeast. Above average temperatures. Minimum temperatures near average in the southeast on Friday and Saturday.


Townsville

Max 23°C, chance of rain 5%. Partly cloudy. Winds southwesterly 15 to 20 km/h, shifting southerly 25 to 35 km/h in the morning and becoming light later in the evening.


Herbert and Lower Burdekin

Max 21°C, chance of rain 10%. Partly cloudy. Slight chance of coastal fringe showers this morning. Southerly winds 20 to 30 km/h. Daytime max temperatures 19 to 22°C.


North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Max 25°C, chance of rain 5%. Mostly sunny. Slight chance of north showers. Southeast to southwesterly winds 15 to 25 km/h. Daytime max temperatures 19 to 27°C.


Cairns

Max 25°C, chance of rain 20%. Partly cloudy. Slight chance of early morning shower. Light winds becoming southeasterly 15 to 25 km/h midday, then southerly 15 to 20 km/h evening.


Mackay

Max 17°C, chance of rain 95%. Cloudy. Very high chance of rain. Winds southerly 20 to 30 km/h.


Northern Goldfields

Max 19°C, chance of rain 5%. Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders area. Sunny. Winds southerly 15 to 25 km/h increasing to 25 to 40 km/h in the morning then turning southeasterly 15 to 25 km/h in the evening. Daytime maximum temperatures between 17 and 24.


Mt Isa

Max 19°C, chance of rain 0%. Becoming windy. Sunny. Winds southeasterly 15 to 25 km/h tending south to southeasterly 25 to 40 km/h in the morning then becoming southeasterly 15 to 25 km/h in the evening.
