Rain event special

Two troughs now exist with the one out in the Coral Sea creating more Easterlies towards the NQ coastline, and another crossing the coast and producing the rain over the dividing ranges to the South.


The EC again showing less intense rain but shown to be wrong last night. Winds picking up to gale force along the coast from Yepoon to Whitsundays as midnight approaches.

National

Southern Australia's high extends ridge over state. Central Queensland's upper low moves east, weakening offshore. Trough near Central Coast weakens, moves northwest, weakens further. High moves over southeastern Australia, extends firm ridge. High weakens as it reaches Tasman Sea, continues east. Weak trough may move east across southern Queensland on Friday and Saturday. Weak ridge may follow trough, followed by second weak trough early next week.

State

Scattered showers in Central Coast & Highlands, extending to North Tropical Coast later. Chance of thunderstorm in Central Coast morning. Isolated showers in eastern & N. Queensland east of Richmond. Scattered showers in Cape York Peninsula & Torres Strait. Mostly sunny in southwest & southern interior, partly cloudy elsewhere. Morning frost in southeast inland. Light to moderate southeasterly winds, turning east in afternoon. Fresh and gusty winds in central and western districts and east coast. Temps above average south, below average north.


4-day

  • Wednesday: Showers over the North Tropical Coast and some areas. Showers and sun in other places. Frost and fog in some areas. Breezy winds in many districts. Temperatures varying, but generally average.

  • Thursday: Eastern districts will have scattered showers, becoming widespread at times over the North Tropical Coast. Here will also have isolated showers over northern Cape York Peninsula and the Torres Strait. In the southwest, it will be mostly sunny, while elsewhere will be partly cloudy. In the southeast, there will be morning frost and fog inland. Temperatures will be above average, with maximum temperatures near average in the east.

  • Friday: Scattered showers in the east, widespread at times in the Cassowary Coast. Isolated showers in the southwest and Torres Strait. Mostly sunny in the northwest, partly cloudy elsewhere. Morning frost and fog inland in the southeast. Above average temperatures. Minimum temperatures near average in the southeast.

  • Monday: Scattered showers expected along the east coast, with isolated showers in the southwest on Saturday. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Morning frost inland, extending to southern Queensland on Monday. Temperatures above average with minimum temperatures near average in the southeast.


Townsville

Max 25, Showers increasing, 80% chance of rain. Partly cloudy. High chance of showers, mostly later. Light winds becoming southerly 15-20 km/h, then southwesterly late.


Herbert and Lower Burdekin

Max 25, Showers increasing, 80% chance of rain. Herbert and Lower Burdekin: Partly cloudy. High chance of afternoon and evening showers. Light winds becoming east-southeasterly 15-20 km/h in the middle of the day. Daytime temperatures low to mid 20s.


North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Max 24, Partly cloudy, 10% chance of rain. North Tropical Coast and Tablelands: Partly cloudy. Medium chance of coastal showers, slight chance elsewhere. Winds S to SE 15-20 km/h, turning E to SE 15-25 km/h in the morning. Daytime temperatures 19 to 25.


Cairns

Max 25, Partly cloudy, 20% chance of rain. Mostly sunny morning, slight chance of evening shower. Winds S to SE 15-25 km/h..


Mackay

Max 23, Showers, 95% chance of rain. Cloudy, showers easing later, chance of AM thunderstorm. SE winds 40-50 km/h easing to E-SE 25-40 km/h.


Northern Goldfields

Max 21, Shower or two, 60% chance of rain. Partly cloudy. Showers in south, minimal elsewhere. SE winds 25-40 km/h, turning E 30-45 km/h, then decreasing to 25-35 km/h.


Mt Isa

Max 23, Windy, Partly cloudy, 0% chance of rain. SE winds 15-25 km/h increasing to 30-45 km/h in the morning, then decreasing to 25-35 km/h in the late afternoon.
