National

I went for the really colourful this morning to change things up. As they say a change is as good as a holiday. The ocean colour is just sea surface temps and essentially keeping an eye on the movement of the sea surface temps to the North with the approaching monsoon pulse. Will it be warm enough? Certainly warm enough over off the coast of WA and in the Gulf. The Satellite shows the cloud gathering along a trough that is where air is flowing in from the East and the South and merging in one spot, or otherwise, know as a convergence of sorts. Not a strong one, to get that we need air from the North and South mixing. The new High is merging with the old and airflow continues to be SE trade winds. Again this was forecast in the pinned post 3 weeks ago. So the review has that one ticked off. A low and associated trough moving over Tas and Vic after creating some windy conditions in SA yesterday. Not huge amounts of rain but that could improve with better access to ocean water.

State

I have everything switched to the ECWMF today but with that, you have to be cautious as the temps are normally one or two degrees too low. So with the cloud cover, we should expect things to be a fraction lower than yesterday. A trough exists across close to the NT/QLD border and extends to a low entering Victoria. That will bring likely storms to the Central NSW today. There will be likely storms for most of the Peninsula region and possible storms reaching down to Innisfail. Later storms possible for the NW of the state. We have already seen some storms pass by Townsville.

12 hours

Let's have a Statewide look at the next 12 hours. Currently, we have the convergence as mentioned and the rain is moving mainly North of Townsville although some is diverging towards Townsville or coming from the East across the land. Storms starting up to the NW of the state later this afternoon, showers continuing along the NQ coastline.

4-day

The new and old high merge over the next few days and after a few more days of showers along the NQ coast, a temporary break from the rain. The approaching low from the East will start to move back East as the merged high-pressure system moves SE. Still expecting storm activity, mainly to the South and South East of QLD as the trough moves East with the associated low. Storms for the SE Friday and clearing Saturday.
