National

Coral Sea high: weak ridge northeast, inland trough southeast, central, northwest. Southern trough drifts further inland, may return to southeast. Inland trough deepens, drifts west towards western Queensland.


State

In the Coral Sea, a high will keep a weak ridge over the state's northeast. An inland trough will stretch over the southeast, central, and northwest districts. The southern part of the trough will move inland over central and inland southern districts in the coming days, and then possibly return to the southeast inland over the weekend. The inland trough may deepen as it drifts west towards western Queensland early next week.


4-day

  • Thursday: Isolated showers and thunderstorms in eastern districts south of Rockhampton and east of Goondiwindi, scattered in Wide Bay and Burnett. Severe thunderstorms possible east of Toowoomba and Nambour, north to Blackwater and Rockhampton. Partly cloudy with isolated showers from Bribie Island to Boonah, including Brisbane and Gold Coast. Mostly clear elsewhere with smoke haze possible in central and southeastern districts. Winds moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly in southern and central Queensland, extending to central Queensland. Light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds elsewhere, occasionally fresh in the Far North.

  • Friday: Isolated showers in central and southern districts south of Mackay and east of Tambo to Bollon. Scattered inland with possible thunderstorms. Possible shower or storm in Gulf Country. Mostly sunny in the west, partly cloudy elsewhere. Above average maximum temperatures in northwest, below average in southeast. Below average minimums in southeast and far north.

  • Saturday: Isolated showers and thunderstorms in central and southern districts south of Bowen, east of Barcaldine to St George. Showers may scatter inland in southeastern Queensland, depending on an inland trough. Very isolated showers returning to the east coast north of Townsville. Possible shower or storm in the Gulf Country. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Maximum temperatures above average in the northwest and below average in the southeast.

  • Sunday: Isolated showers and thunderstorms in central and southern districts south of Mackay. Showers becoming scattered to possibly widespread in southeastern Queensland, depending on an inland trough. Isolated showers along the east coast north of Mackay. A possible shower or storm in the Gulf Country. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Max temperatures above average in the northwest and below average in the southeast.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin

Min 18°C, Max 31°C, Partly cloudy. Chance of rain: 0%. Light winds, becoming NE 20-30 km/h in the morning.

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Min 16°C, Max 34°C, Sunny. Chance of rain: 0%. Winds E 20-30 km/h.

Cairns

Min 19°C, Max 31°C, Mostly sunny. Chance of rain: 0%. Light winds, becoming E 15-25 km/h in the morning, then light in the evening.

Mackay

Min 18°C, Max 29°C, Mostly sunny. Chance of rain: 0%. Light winds, becoming NE 20-25 km/h in the morning, then E 20-30 km/h in the middle of the day.

Northern Goldfields

Min 20°C, Max 41°C, Sunny. Chance of rain: 0%. Winds NE to SE 15-20 km/h, tending SE to SW 15-25 km/h in the early afternoon, then NE to SE in the late evening.

Mt Isa

Min 23°C, Max 41°C, Mostly sunny. Chance of rain: 0%. Light winds, becoming E 20-30 km/h in the morning, then light in the middle of the day.
