Storms special report

Troughs merging, leading to scattered showers and storms over much of the NT, northern WA, QLD, and NSW, with some intensity. Troughs maintaining warmer, humid air to the north and east. Trough in WA swinging inland, taking some heat with it. High clearing the south.The NQ coastline to see storms approaching from the 24th but forming overhead on the 29th, possibly the 28th as well. Showers from trade winds from tomorrow up to and including the 27th.

National

Trough deepening, drawing moisture across Queensland. Upper troughs enhance shower activity. Tasman Sea high maintains ridge. New high strengthens briefly on Friday. High reaches Tasman Sea on Friday or Saturday.


State

A trough will deepen over western Queensland, bringing moisture across the state. Upper

troughs will move east, enhancing shower and thunderstorm activity over the state. A high in the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along the east coast. A new high will strengthen the ridge briefly on Friday before moving east. It will reach the Tasman Sea on Friday or Saturday.


4-day

  • Tuesday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms across the state, mainly on the east coast. Periods of rain in central and southeastern districts. Possibility of severe thunderstorms in the southern and southeastern interior. Temperatures below average in northwestern, central, and southern districts; slightly above average in the far southwest.

  • Wednesday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms expected statewide, mainly on the east coast. Storms may become widespread at times in the southern interior, possibly turning severe south of Charleville. Below average temperatures in the northwest, central, and southern districts, slightly above average in the far southwest, and near average elsewhere.

  • Thursday: Spotty showers and thunderstorms statewide, mainly on the east coast. More widespread activity expected in central and southern areas. Below average temps in west, central, and southern regions, while near average elsewhere.

  • Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms statewide, more concentrated on the east coast. The central and southern interior may experience widespread shower and thunderstorm activity on Friday, but it will become isolated on Sunday. Temperatures will be below average in western and interior districts, near or below average in the southeast, and around average elsewhere.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin

Min 21°C, Max 32°C, Partly cloudy. Rain chance: 5%. Light winds becoming northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day.

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Min 19°C, Max 32°C, Partly cloudy. Rain chance: 10%. Winds east to northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h. Medium chance of showers near the coast, near zero chance elsewhere.

Cairns

Min 23°C, Max 32°C, Possible shower. Possible rainfall: 0 to 2 mm. Rain chance: 40%. Partly cloudy. Medium chance of showers. Light winds becoming easterly 15 to 20 km/h in the morning, then becoming light in the evening.

Mackay

Min 21°C, Max 30°C, Partly cloudy. Rain chance: 5%. Light winds becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in the morning, then becoming light in the evening.

Rockhampton

Min 22°C, Max 30°C, Shower or two. Possible rainfall: 0 to 4 mm. Rain chance: 60%. Partly cloudy. Medium chance of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon. The chance of a thunderstorm in the morning and afternoon. Light winds becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in the late afternoon then becoming light in the evening.

Northern Goldfields

Min 23°C, Max 37°C, Partly cloudy. Rain chance: 10%. Slight chance of a shower in the south, near zero chance elsewhere. The chance of a thunderstorm. Winds northeast to southeasterly 15 to 20 km/h becoming northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h early in the morning then tending northeast to southeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in the late evening.

Longreach

Min 21°C, Max 37°C, Possible storm. Possible rainfall: 0 to 1 mm. Rain chance: 30%. Partly cloudy. Slight chance of a shower, most likely from the late morning. The chance of a thunderstorm. Winds northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h tending northerly 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day then becoming light in the early afternoon.

Mt Isa
