National
High in southern Tasman Sea weakens ridge over east of state. High moves northward into Coral Sea, maintaining weak ridge over northeast. Trough moves into far southwest today, then east across southern Queensland on Tuesday. Trough may drift northward and become slow moving over central districts Wednesday and Thursday. Dry, gusty northwesterly winds ahead of trough bring hot conditions and elevated fire dangers inland. Cooler southerly airflow follows trough for Wednesday in southern Queensland.
State
The high in the southern Tasman Sea will weaken and move northward into the Coral Sea, maintaining a weak ridge over the northeast of the state. A trough will move into the far southwest of the state later today and then across southern Queensland on Tuesday. It may also reach the South East coast by Wednesday. The trough could drift northward and remain slow-moving over central districts on Wednesday and Thursday. Dry and gusty northwesterly winds will develop ahead of the trough, causing hot conditions and increased fire dangers in central, southern, and western districts. A cooler southerly airflow will follow on Wednesday in southern Queensland.

Tuesday: Isolated showers expected in Torres Strait. Chance of showers or thunderstorms near southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast west of Burketown. Mostly clear elsewhere with morning smoke haze in central and southeastern districts. North to northwesterly winds in southern interior and southwestern Queensland, becoming southerly later in the Channel Country. Southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.
Wednesday: Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms in eastern districts with a chance of severe thunderstorms near the east coast. Partly cloudy in Southeast Queensland with areas of smoke haze. Dry, gusty southerly winds leading to elevated fire danger in western and inland southern Queensland. Fresh southeasterly winds along the southern coast. Maximum temperatures above or well above average, tending near average in some areas. Minimum temperatures near or below average along the tropical east coast and Far North Queensland.
Thursday: Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms in central and southeastern districts. Scattered showers near the east coast between Bundaberg and Rockhampton. Partly cloudy in eastern and far North Queensland, mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds along the east coast. High fire dangers in the interior. Maximum temperatures near or above average in the interior and northern Queensland, near average along the east coast south of Bowen and far southwest. Minimum temperature near or slightly below average in Far North Queensland.
