Rain event special

A low pressure system extending a trough into QLD from Victoria will continue to move East today and storms early afternoon for Charleville (1pm ish), the tail of the trough moving towards Roma (5pm ish). Heavier rain in the evening along the dividing ranges. The trough reaching the edges of Brisbane by early morning (2am ish). Showers early morning for the SEQ coastline.


National

Trough moving east across state today, reaching South East on Thursday and central coast on Friday. High moving east will create ridge across state, extending to Tasman Sea this weekend.

A trough moves east across the state today, then moves over the South East on Thursday and off the central coast on Friday. A high moving east creates a ridge across the state after the trough passes, reaching the Tasman Sea over the weekend.

  • Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms expected in southeastern Queensland, Capricornia, and Central Highlands. Increased thunderstorm risk near the east coast. Isolated showers in the Central Coast, Whitsundays, and Burdekin. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Temperatures near or above average in the east and north, while below average in the west and south. High fire danger inland southeast, central, and northwestern Queensland.

  • Friday: Isolated showers on the east coast, scattered with chance of thunderstorm between Whitsundays and Maryborough. Showers may become widespread at times between Yeppoon and Bundaberg. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Below average temperatures in the west and interior, well below average in the far west. Near average temperatures elsewhere. High fire danger in the west and inland southeast.

  • Saturday: Isolated showers on the east coast and central inland. Scattered showers on the east coast between Cairns and Mackay, and exposed South East Coast. Fresh southeasterly winds on the southeast and central coast. Mostly sunny in other areas. Temperatures near or below average. High fire danger in central west and far west.

  • Sunday: Isolated showers on east coast, scattered on North Tropical Coast and South East coast. Showers and thunderstorms west of Barcaldine to Charleville on Sunday, scattered to southwest and southern interior on Monday, and southern inland on Tuesday. Fresh southeasterly winds on east coast, partly cloudy elsewhere. Near or below average temperatures. Maximum temperatures well below average in North West and central interior from Monday. High fire danger on central interior and inland on Sunday, easing on Monday.


Townsville

Max 30 Possible morning shower. Chance of any rain: 30%. Mostly sunny afternoon. Light winds becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in the early afternoon, then becoming light in the late afternoon.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin

Max 29 Partly cloudy. Chance of any rain: 30%. Slight chance of a shower. Light winds becoming northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day.

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Max 32 Partly cloudy. Chance of any rain: 20%. Slight chance of a shower. Winds easterly 15 to 25 km/h.

Cairns

Max 30 Mostly sunny. Chance of any rain: 30%. Slight chance of a shower. Light winds becoming easterly 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day then becoming light in the evening.

Mackay

Max 27 Possible morning shower. Chance of any rain: 40%. Partly cloudy. Medium chance of showers in the morning. Light winds becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in the early afternoon then becoming light in the evening.

Northern Goldfields

Max 37 Partly cloudy. Chance of any rain: 5%. Mostly sunny. Winds north to northeasterly 20 to 30 km/h shifting south to southwesterly 15 to 25 km/h in the afternoon.

Mt Isa

Max 35 Mostly sunny. Chance of any rain: 0%. Mostly sunny. Light winds becoming southerly 15 to 25 km/h in the morning.
