Rain Event
Today we will see the Coral Sea trough push rain towards the coast, mainly the Far North coast North of Townsville. However it will impact further South as well. Storms should stay offshore but likely to be heavy storms early morning tomorrow, some may cross the coast at the more exposed regions like the Whitsundays. Showers mainly light, 1 to 5mm, but again could be one spot that could see upto 20mm or more. This is the first part more to come over the next few days and relatively speaking this is a reasonable amlunt for this part of the year.
National
Strong trough moves southwest, high extends ridge over New Zealand. Trough moves east across Queensland, high moves east across Australian Bight, extends new ridge. High moves east, reaches Tasman Sea, maintains firm ridge.
State
A trough will move into the southwest today, while a high near New Zealand extends a ridge over the rest of the state. The trough will move east across southern and central Queensland on Friday and off the east coast by Saturday. A strong high will move over the Great Australian Bight from Friday, bringing a new ridge over the state after the trough leaves. The high will continue moving east, reaching the Tasman Sea on Monday and maintaining a firm ridge over the state.
