Rain Event

Showers easing back today as the trough out to sea weakens. Showers returning midday as the trough shifts and should be gone by 5pm. More coming over the weekend, Sunday into Monday possibly the most likely days for showers.



National

Tasman Sea high moves east, weakening east coast ridge. Coral Sea trough combines with ridge, brings more clouds and showers to central and northeast tropical coasts. Southwest trough moves east through Queensland, pushes off east coast by Saturday. East-moving high extends firm ridge in wake of trough. High moves east, reaches Tasman Sea on Monday, maintains ridge.

State

High in Tasman Sea moves east, weakens east coast ridge. Weak trough in Coral Sea combines with ridge, increases cloud and showers in central and northeast coasts. Significant trough in far southwest moves east across Queensland, reaches east coast by Saturday morning. Strong high in Great Australian Bight moves east, extends ridge over state after trough. High moves east, reaches Tasman Sea on Monday, maintains ridge over state.


4-day

  • Saturday: Isolated to scattered showers in east, Central Highlands, Coalfields, and Torres Strait, clearing from southeast QLD in the morning. Chance of morning thunderstorm south of Mackay. Partly cloudy in Cape York, mostly sunny elsewhere. Morning fog in east between Townsville and Rockhampton. Max temperatures below average in southwest and southern interior, near average elsewhere. Min temperatures below average in west QLD and southern interior, above average north of Yeppoon, near average elsewhere.

  • Sunday: Isolated showers on east coast, Torres Strait. Showers scattered north of St Lawrence. Showers widespread on North Tropical Coast. Partly cloudy on Cape York Peninsula, sunny elsewhere. Frost in southern, southeastern interior. Below average temperatures south of Gympie, above average north of Townsville, below average elsewhere. Well below average in southern, southeastern interior.

  • Monday: Isolated showers on east coast and Torres Strait, scattered along southeast coast. Scattered showers on North Tropical Coast, widespread at times on Wet Tropics. Partly cloudy on Cape York Peninsula, mostly sunny elsewhere. Patchy morning frost in southern interior. Temps near or below average, except north of Georgetown, slightly above average. Well below average in central inland and southern interior.

  • Tuesday: Isolated showers in east and Torres Strait, scattered showers along southeast coast on Tuesday. Scattered showers over North Tropical Coast, becoming widespread at times over Cassowary Coast on Tuesday and Wednesday. Partly cloudy over Cape York Peninsula, mostly sunny elsewhere. Max. temps near/below average in east/north, above average south of Longreach from Wednesday. Min. temps near/below average, above average in southwest from Thursday.


Townsville

Max 29°C, Poss. shower. Rain: 40%. Cloudy. Med. chance of showers. Light winds, easterly 20-30 km/h midday, becoming light eve.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin

Max 29°C, Poss. shower. Rain: 40%. Cloudy. Slight chance of shower. Light winds, ESE 15-20 km/h midday, shifting ENE 20-30 km/h early afternoon.

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Max 29°C, Showers. Rain: 80%. Cloudy. Med. chance of showers, mainly PM. Winds ESE 15-20 km/h, becoming light AM, then ESE 25-35 km/h AM.

Cairns

Max 30°C, Shower or 2. Rain: 70%. Cloudy. High chance of PM showers. Light winds, SE 15-25 km/h midday, becoming light late evening.

Mackay

Max 27°C, Shower or 2. Rain: 60%. Partly cloudy. Med. chance of showers. Chance of thunder. Light winds, ESE 15-25 km/h midday, becoming light eve.

Northern Goldfields

Max 34°C, Sunny. Rain: 10%. Slight SE shower chance, near zero elsewhere. Chance of dust SW late AM & PM. Winds NE-SE 20-30 km/h, shifting SSE midday, then ESE late eve.

Mt Isa

Max 30°C, Sunny. Rain: 0%. Mostly sunny. Chance of dust late AM & PM. Winds S 20-25 km/h, becoming SE 25-40 km/h early AM.
