National

Tasman Sea high moves, weakens east coast ridge. Interior trough moves over Queensland, followed by high extending ridge. High moves east over weekend to Tasman Sea, maintains ridge.

State

A high in the Tasman Sea will weaken the east coast ridge. A strong trough will move east across central and southeastern Queensland today, reaching the east coast early Saturday. A strong high will then extend a firm ridge over the state. The high will move further east over the weekend, reaching the Tasman Sea on Monday and keeping the ridge over the state.


4-day

  • Sunday: Partly cloudy with showers along east coast and in Far North Queensland. Showers becoming scattered on North Tropical Coast and widespread on Cassowary Coast. Partly cloudy in South East Queensland, mostly sunny elsewhere. Morning frost inland in south and southeast. Temperatures below average in south, near average elsewhere. Minimum temperatures above average north of Bowen, below average elsewhere, and well below average in south and southeast.

  • Monday: On Monday, there will be isolated showers on the east coast and Torres Strait, scattered showers on the southeast coast, and widespread showers at times on the Wet Tropics. It will be partly cloudy on Cape York Peninsula and mostly sunny everywhere else. There might be patchy morning frost in the southern interior. Maximum temperatures will be near or below average, while minimum temperatures will be near or slightly above average north of Georgetown, and near or below average elsewhere, except for the central inland and southern interior where they will be well below average.

  • Tuesday: Partly cloudy, with isolated showers in some areas. Showers becoming scattered in certain coastal regions. Some scattered showers in the North Tropical Coast, becoming more widespread in the Cassowary Coast. Partly cloudy in Cape York Peninsula, mostly sunny elsewhere. Temperatures near or below average in the east and north. Slightly above average in the southern interior. Minimum temperatures near or below average.

  • Wednesday: Isolated showers in some areas, becoming scattered in southeastern QLD. Partly cloudy with scattered showers along the east coast and in Torres Strait. Showers becoming isolated in the North Tropical Coast by Friday. Partly cloudy over Cape York Peninsula and mostly sunny elsewhere. Temps near/below average in east/north, above average in south from Thursday, especially in the southern interior by Friday. Minimum temps near/below average, except above average in the southwest from Thursday.


Townsville

Max 29°C, Partly cloudy. Rain: 20%. Partly cloudy. Slight chance of shower. Winds SE 15-20 km/h, becoming E 15-25 km/h midday, then light eve.

Herbert and Lower Burdekin

Max 29°C, Cloud clear. Rain: 10%. Slight N shower chance. Light winds, SE 15-20 km/h AM, shifting E 15-25 km/h midday.

North Tropical Coast and Tablelands

Max 29°C, Partly cloudy. Rain: 30%. High coastal shower chance, medium elsewhere. Winds E-SE 25-35 km/h.

Cairns

Max 29°C, Shower or 2. Rain: 70%. Partly cloudy. High chance of late-night showers. Winds SE 15-20 km/h, becoming light AM, then SE 20-30 km/h AM.

Mackay

Max 26°C, Partly cloudy. Rain: 30%. Partly cloudy. AM fog poss. Slight shower chance. Winds SE 20-30 km/h.

Northern Goldfields

Max 34°C, Mostly sunny. Rain: 5%. Winds E-SE 20-30 km/h.

Mt Isa

Max 32°C, Sunny. Rain: 0%. Sunny. Winds SE 15-25 km/h.
