Airconditioning Checklist Summer 2023/2024

Updated: Oct 17, 2023

It is incredibly important to check the running conditions of the air conditioners in your home. The biggest thing we see every year as summer hits is air conditioners not working like when they were last used. Here is a checklist to ensure you are NOT caught out at the start of summer. Now is the time! Our details are at the bottom of the page.

  • Clean your filters. Remove filters, hose them clean, let them dry, and insert them back in.

  • Check the evaporator cell. Before inserting the filters back in, check to see if there is any dirt, mould, or debris covering the barrel fan. If there is, contact Shane at Tropical North Air to professionally service the air conditioner.

  • Check the barrel fan. Get a torch and shine the light up into where the cool air comes out. You should see a long black fan blade called a barrel fan, check to see if there is any dirt, mould, or debris covering the barrel fan. If there is, contact Shane at Tropical North Air to professionally service the air conditioner.

  • Test the air conditioner for general operations. Turn the air conditioner on via the remote and turn the temperature down to 18, high fan speed on the cooling mode (generally a snowflake or 'cool' indicates that it is on cool. Check manual otherwise). Leave the air conditioner running for 10-20 minutes. If the air conditioner has a foul odour or is not cooling, contact Shane at Tropical North Air to fault find the issue and rectify before summer.

  • Check the outdoor unit. Make sure there is no debris on or around the air conditioner. They are durable, but we want to mitigate any potential vermin or other issues.

Did you know that an air conditioning unit runs for over 1300 hours on average per summer? That is a lot of wear and tear.

Our air conditioning servicing and maintenance program provides a range of benefits including:

Longer asset lifespan: Properly maintained air conditioning systems last longer, which means you won't have to replace or repair them as frequently.

Improved energy efficiency: Regular servicing can keep your air conditioning system running at peak efficiency, reducing your energy bills and reducing your carbon footprint.

Reduced repair costs: With regular maintenance, minor issues can be addressed before they become major problems, saving you money on costly repairs.
