National Synoptic Situation

National Temperature and Rainfall

  • Rain typically refers to steady, continuous precipitation that lasts for a longer period, sometimes hours or even days. It can vary in intensity, but it's usually more consistent and widespread.

  • Showers, on the other hand, are shorter bursts of rain, often intermittent. They can be heavy but usually don't last long. Showers are more sporadic and may be followed by dry periods or other types of weather, like sun or clouds.

National Synoptic Situation

QLD:

Well folks, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred has decided to take a little road trip inland across the southeastern interior. It's feeling a bit weak and will eventually morph into a trough in northern New South Wales by Monday morning. Meanwhile, a ridge will be hanging out over eastern Queensland for a few days, just chilling. Down in the southwest, a trough will be causing a bit of a stir from Monday to Wednesday before getting kicked out west into central Australia on Thursday. And to top it all off, a new high will be moving into the Tasman Sea. Mother Nature sure knows how to keep us on our toes!

NSW and ACT:

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred is throwing in the towel and turning into a trough as it saunters its way into northern New South Wales. Despite losing its cyclone status, this system is expected to bring some heavy rain and maybe even a few thunderstorms next week. Meanwhile, a high pressure ridge is doing its best to cover the state but will be making its way over to northeast New South Wales by Sunday. To keep things interesting, a trough will be hanging out west of the divide all week, creating the potential for some afternoon storm action. So, grab your umbrella and stay tuned for some wet and wild weather ahead!

VIC:

Well, it looks like we've got a high pressure system playing hard to get in the southern Tasman Sea, while a low pressure system and its trusty sidekick trough are getting ready to crash the party from the west. The low pressure system will be making its grand entrance on Monday, followed by the trough strutting its stuff in the western districts on Tuesday, before sashaying over to the east on Wednesday. But fear not, a ridge from a high pressure system west of Tasmania will come to our rescue on Thursday. So grab your umbrella and hold on to your hats, it's going to be a wild ride this week in Victoria!

SA:

Well, looks like we've got a low pressure system and trough crashing the party in western SA. The low is planning to set up camp south of the state while the trough decides to hang out in the central parts until Tuesday. But fear not, a new high is coming to the rescue on Wednesday, pushing the low and trough out eastward. And just when you thought the drama was over, the high decides to make a grand exit to the east by the end of the week. Mother Nature sure knows how to keep us on our toes!

WA:

Looks like we've got a wide trough hanging out up north. So if you're in that neck of the woods, be prepared for some persistent weather shenanigans.

TAS:

Get ready to have your weather knowledge tested this week. A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will be making moves to the east on Monday, while a trough crosses Tasmania during the day. Another high pressure system will be sliding over waters to the south of the state on Tuesday, followed by a low pressure system making an appearance mid-week. As if that wasn't enough, a high pressure system to the west will be keeping things interesting with a milder southwesterly airstream later in the week. It's a weather rollercoaster out there, folks!

NT:

Well, it seems like the NT is just chilling under a big ol' area of low pressure, with a trough casually meandering through the Tanami and Barkly Districts. Just a heads up for anyone in the area, things might be a bit unsettled as this system slowly makes its way south. So, be prepared for some potentially unpredictable weather patterns!

Temperature and Rainfall Forecast - Access-G

Monday, 10th March

Grab your sunscreen and umbrella, folks! It's mostly sunny down in the far southwest, but don't let that fool you. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms all over the place, with some good ol' fashioned rain in the southeast. Temperatures will be hitting near average in the east, but don't worry, it's gonna be hotter than average everywhere else. Time to break out the shorts and raincoats!

Tuesday, 11th March

Grab your sunscreen and umbrella because it's shaping up to be a mixed bag out there. Expect some rays in the far southwest, but don't be surprised if you get caught in a shower or two elsewhere with a side of thunder. Inland in the far west will be feeling the heat, while the rest of us will be chilling at average temperatures. Time to play weather roulette!

Wednesday, 12th March

Bring out the umbrellas, folks, because we've got some isolated to scattered showers making their way across the state. Watch out for those thunderstorms, especially if you're hanging out inland in the southwest, northwest, or over northern Cape York Peninsula. As for temperatures, expect them to be above average inland in the far west, and just about average everywhere else. So grab your raincoat and maybe a hat, because it's shaping up to be a wet and mildly warm day out there.

Thursday, 13th March

Looks like we've got a mixed bag of weather coming our way this week. From Friday, expect some clouds hanging out in the southwest, while scattered showers will be crashing the party elsewhere. Keep an eye out for a potential thunderstorm in the southwest and west on Thursday, with Cape York Peninsula getting in on the action as well. And just when you thought you were safe, eastern districts will be hit with some stormy weather on Saturday. Temperatures will be hot inland in the far west, but thankfully near average everywhere else. So grab your umbrella and sunscreen, folks, it's going to be an interesting week!
